When Roary was born, he wasn't the king of anything.
He was simply a curious lion cub – wide-eyed, restless and filled with the quiet belief that life could be bigger than the place he began.
Back in 2010, while many chose familiar roads, Roary took his first uncertain steps beside a young institution with a bold ambition: to create opportunities through education and help students unlock their potential, regardless of where they started.
At the time, both Roary and GBS were small.
Ambitious.
Eager to prove themselves.
The cub watched students arrive carrying dreams far greater than their circumstances. Some crossed oceans to be there. Others came from communities where opportunity felt distant, fragile or out of reach.
And Roary learned something important very early on:
True strength is not about power.
It is about perseverance.
Year after year, Roary grew alongside GBS.
Then came 2016 – a moment that changed everything.
GBS opened its first campus in East London, a community built on resilience, hard work and determination.
That was the moment the cub discovered his purpose.
He would not become the kind of lion that guarded gates.
He would become the lion that opened them.
From the sidelines, Roary witnessed thousands of stories unfold.
He saw the late nights spent studying after long shifts.
The nervous first days in unfamiliar classrooms.
The friendships formed in corridors and libraries.
The quiet breakthroughs – those life-changing moments when students realised they were capable of more than they had ever imagined.
And through every story, Roary kept growing.
As GBS expanded its partnerships with UK universities and introduced new programmes in business, healthcare, construction and beyond, Roary grew stronger too.
Every new campus became another symbol of possibility.
Every student became another voice against limitation.
Every graduate became proof that background should never define destiny.
What began as a hopeful cub slowly became something far greater:
A symbol of courage.
A champion of ambition.
A roar for opportunity.
Now, in 2026, Roary stands proudly across ten campuses in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester – representing a community of thousands of students.
But Roary's story was never about becoming king.
It was about helping others discover the greatness already inside them.
He is the lion who grew alongside GBS.
The cub who learned that education changes lives.
The roar that reminds students they belong in every room they dream of entering.
And now, after years of watching from the sidelines, Roary is finally ready to meet each one of you – with boundless energy, fearless determination and a belief that your future can be bigger than you ever imagined.
Today, Roary stands ready to inspire students to overcome barriers, embrace opportunities and pursue their ambitions with confidence.
And just like GBS...
His journey has only just begun.
